Dear Franciscans,
For those who are not aware, Bro. Michael is still in Assunta Hospital: Melati Ward, Room No. 6111, 6th Floor. He was admitted last week for lung infection. This morning, I dropped by to visit him, hoping to see some improvement. Apparently, he looks the same with many tubes attached to his body and sleeping.
Let us continue to pray for his quick recovery.
Thank you & God bless,
M.K.

Happy Birthday Bro. Michael Jacques
12 June 2010 Update on Bro Michael Jacques:
Bro Michael Jacques celebrated his 94th birthday on 6.6.10
RE: Here are the answers to your queries, to the best of my knowledge:
1. Paralysis? He is still bedridden and needs full-time attention.
The attending nurses are qualified and competent. There is also a
physiotherapist on hand to look after him.
2. Ability to take in food? He is still fed liquid diet through the nose.
3. Consciousness? He is unable to talk just yet, but can respond by nodding and the occasional smile to indicate his approval.
4. Bed-sores? The problem is being overcome by turning him frequently
and applying lotion to his body. Unfortunately, there are some on his
arms and these are cleansed and bandaged as and when necessary. Not
really sure what this might be.
5. Response to medical treatment? For a man of his age, I think his
recovery so far has been miraculous (to say the least)! I think this is
due to our prayers and we hope he will at least be able to move on his
own on the wheel-chair.
I hope the above assessment of Bro. Michael's condition will give you picture of his current condition.
God bless, M.K.
An email from Mahendran Kutty dated 6th June 2010:
Dear Franciscans,
For those who can remember, yesterday was Bro. Michael's Birthday.
Considering his present predicament, I was just planning to drop by
with my wife to wish him.
On last Saturday evening, I received a sms from Mr.Lim Hock Thiam, the
President of XCKL informing me that some of their members are going to
drop by to see him on Sunday evening and they wanted other La Sallians
to join them. Hence, I forwarded the message to some of you, hoping to
see a better turnout.
All in, there were about 15 of us, mostly Xaverians. The others were
Mr. Michael Chin and wife. I assume most of you could not make it due
to the very short notice and the start of school holidays.
Nevertheless, we had 2 cakes (one a delicious strawberry cheesecake) and
we invited all the other home-mates to join in the party. We sang "The
School Rally", "For He is a Jolly Good Fellow" followed by the "Happy
Birthday" song (of course).
On hand to record the proceedings was a reporter and camera-woman from
"the Star". They also interviewed some of us about our "relationship"
with dear Bro. Michael. The oncoming release (in late July 2010) of the
autobiography of Bro. Michael was also covered. Please look out for the
press coverage in Star Metro in the next few days.
I will do a proper report on the event and submit with photographs to
Mr. Choe for our next issue of Green & White.
In the meantime, let us pray for the speedy recovery of Bro. Michael so
that he will be able to join us in future reunions.
Thank you and God bless,
M.K.

Hi Teck Wah,
Went with Henry Sim to the nursing home in PJ - off Jalan Gasing on
Saturday to see Bro. Micheal. He was resting in bed with eyes opened.
I called him, talked to him and relayed your messages. I am not sure if
he heard me and understood my messages.
According to the nurse who was in attendance, she said Brother did
blinked indicating that he heard me. I could not see the blinks and hope
that the nurse was right. I take comfort that she is a trained
professional while I am only a lay person with no experience in stroke
patients.
I think the best we can do for him is to pray for him and ask the Lord
to ease his passage to the kingdom.
The 10 April dinner party in SFI was well attended and organised as
usual. But our class-mates were fewer reflecting age or time. Usual
supporters Teo Kee Seng and Hong Seng Peng could not make it because of
ill health. Ng Kian Seng and Ernest Yee from KL did not show up for
some other reason.
On Sunday Henry Sim drove back to KL while I took a coach to Singapore.
Best, Kok Tong.

Hi Tech Wah,
Bro Michael was moved to a nursing home yesterday.
Its called the KJG Physio Nursing Home. the address is:
No. 1 Jalan Mewah 6/9, PJ. its quite near to La Salle Provincialate.
Am sure you know the Lotus Restaurant at Jalan Gasing?
The nursing home is just behind the Lotus Restaurant. its very easy to
find if you know where the Lotus is.

Bro. Datuk Dr. Michael Jacques whom La Sallians know well is currently
warded at the Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya.
Upon our return from the Chinese New Year trip to our hometown, my wife
and I visited Bro. Michael at the La Salle Provincialate on Wednesday,
24th February following an appointment made a day earlier. It was
unusual that he was not there when we arrived. After some waiting and
ringing of the door bell, we decided to call him on his mobile but the
call went unanswered. Minutes later, he returned the call saying he was
at the Assunta Hospital for a check-up as he had earlier vomited. But
little did we know then that he was being admitted for suspected dengue
fever. Through Bro. Andrew Loke, we learned that he later suffered a
stroke on Sunday.
We visited him yesterday (2 March) and Bro. Lucian Ng was there too with
us to pray for him. The good Brother was semi-conscious, unable to
speak though we knew he was aware of our presence as he squeezed our
hands when we spoke to him. According to the nursing sister, he would be
transferred to the normal ward later as his other conditions were
stabilizing. He is now in a normal ward … so the good Brother’s
condition has improved!
We ask La Sallians and friends who are now reading this article to pray
for him and through God’s grace, he will overcome this predicament.
Please do pass on this message. Thank you.

Hi Tech wah,
i'd like to inform you that Br Michael is hospitalised. He had a
fever last Wed, so Br Felix took him to Assunta and the doctor said he
must be admitted bec they suspected it might be dengue fever. Yesterday
when i came to work, i was informed that Br Michael had a stroke on
Sunday and his left side was paralysed. During lunch time, i went to see
him, he was warded and the HD ward. he was half conscious and not able
to speak. i called him few times and i think he knew someone was talking
to him and he squeezed my hand. this morning when i came in for work,
Br Visitor told me that Br Michael has been transferred to the normal
ward, so i supposed he's much better. please pray for him.
regards,
theresa

Nicholas N Chin | Comment by teckwahmah on 2010-03-31 20:35:08 Latest on Bro Michael dated 31 March 2010 from Theresa Foo. Br Michael looks very weak and not able to speak but his condition is stable. The doctor said he can be discharged. The Brothers are looking for a good nursing home for him. Most likely he'll be moved there soon. He doesn't have his mobile with him since he can't speak, its with Br Felix so you would not be able to get him. Will update you when there's any change.
| Comment by teckwahmah on 2010-03-31 22:22:42 Update received dated 1 April 2010 from Bro John D???Cruz. I saw Brother Michael a few days before I left for Hong Kong. He seemed to be very weak, the left side quite paralysed and while he seemed to hear what we were saying he was unable to reply. Now, I believe he is better and about to be sent to a suitable nursing home. I hope to see him on the 5th April....will let you know how he is.
